aarn: this is definitely not art [misc]

This is actually a trap/joke. I made this print of the Insane Clown Posse using the numerically controlled Sharpie set-up. ICP is probably my least favorite music group in the history of music, so I wanted to figure out a way to force my friend Nick to hang artwork featuring Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope in his home. I used the live trace feature in illustrator to get the vector forms and contrast right and then exported it as a DWG. The DWG compression uses this cool technique for hashing solids, where the spacing of the hash pattern appears to be inversely proportional to the size of the filled shape. I wanted to make the piece as abstract as possible so I programmed the machine to draw the solids as well. I think it turned out pretty well. I refuse to post the original image, but I have a hunch that you could find it if you googled these clowns with the word “miracles.”

The image is 18x12” printed on a 26x32” piece of 130-lb white recycled paper.
