repeat press/aarn: old stock letterpress business envelopes [misc]

envelope1

last summer i found a box of heavy-duty half-sheet clasp manila envelopes at a yard sale and bought a box of one-hundred for a dollar. i decided that i wanted this to be my new go-to style for sending mail (especially since they can fit a CD, if i were to need to send one to a client). they collected dust for a few months and then i approached master letterpress printer mike dacey, of repeat press (a fellow fringisizer) about making a classy envelope for the boston office of the engineering firm that employs me.

i knew that i wanted a dark red on the manila, and dashed lines to keep my “to:” field nice and lined-up (something that i have always struggled with). we bounced some ideas back and forth about some kind of subtle details that could be added to the envelope, in order to make it an interesting project for both of us, and the result was a simple and clean graph paper flap. it took us about six months to actually print them up, but by the time that we finally did get around to the task mike had set up his new heidelberg windmill printing press (which is one of the most amazing machines i have ever seen). mike printed the box of a hundred envelopes that i got at the yard sale on the heidelberg with ease. i am super happy with the design and how they turned out, now i need to track down more of these old stock envelopes to print off another batch.
